Sears flips to Southern Cal

Duke's recruiting class now looks different, as one of the top prospects in the 2017 crop is set to enroll elsewhere.

California four-star quarterback Jack Sears, who made a verbal commitment to the Blue Devils in August, has flipped his pledge to Southern California.

"The Triton Football Program can confirm that 2017 QB Jack Sears committed to USC Head Coach Clay Helton earlier today & will early enroll," the official account for Sears' high school program, San Clemente, posted to Twitter on Sunday night.

In September, San Clemente head coach Jaime Ortiz told TrojanSports.com that the Trojans were continuing to recruit Sears.

“Just a feeling after being on his official visit (to Duke in early October) and USC continuing to recruit him," Ortiz told TrojanSports.com last night of Sears' decision.

The move leaves Duke without a committed quarterback in the 2017 class. North Carolina's Gunnar Holmberg is committed to the Blue Devils in the 2018 class.
