Jefferson out indefinitely

Duke senior forward Amile Jefferson is out indefinitely after sustaining an injury to his right foot, University officials announced in a release late Monday afternoon.

The University did not specify Jefferson's injury, but all indicators point to an extended absence for the Blue Devils co-captain.

"This injury is unfortunate, to say the least, but Amile is strong in both person and character," Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said in a statement provided by the University. "He will continue to be an integral part of this team, and we will support him fully as he rehabs his foot injury."

Jefferson was having the best start of his career prior to the injury, averaging 11.4 points and a team-high 10.3 rebounds. The senior ranks No. 5 nationally in offensive rebounds per game, while coming in at No. 17 overall.

Luke Kennard would likely be a top candidate to replace Jefferson in the starting lineup during his absence. Freshman forward Chase Jeter, who is averaging just 8.1 minutes per game will be asked to take on a bigger role, and help fill the void left by Jefferson.

With Jefferson out of the lineup, Marshall Plumlee takes over at the team's leading rebounder with 6.4 per game, while guard Grayson Allen comes behind the senior center with 5.3 per contest.
