Florida pass-rusher commits to Duke

Gainesville (Florida) Buchholz defensive lineman Chris Rumph II committed to Duke on Wednesday night, giving David Cutcliffe and his Blue Devil staff some pass-rushing pop for the future on defense.

“It was the best fit for me,” Rumph told DevilsIllustrated.com. “When I visited it felt like home. I was comfortable with the players and coaches. It’s also one of the best universities in the country.”

With’s Rumph’s versatility along the defensive front, Duke’s coaches could use him in a variety of ways. What’s the plan? Rumph offered a blunt assessment.

“They’re going to use me to sack the quarterback,” he laughed.

The Sunshine State product, the son of Florida defensive line coach Chris Rumph, has one goal once he arrives in Durham.

“I want to do whatever I have to do to help win championships,” he said.

During his junior season, Rumph tallied 104 total tackles, 13.5 sacks, and an interception.
