Duke lands 2017 QB

On the heels of California quarterback Jack Sears flipping his pledge to Southern California, David Cutcliffe and his Duke staff moved quickly to secure a quarterback prospect in the 2017 class.

Algonquin (Illinois) Jacobs three-star passer Chris Katrenick announced on Monday that he's flipped his commitment from Bowling Green to Duke. Katrenick posted the news to his Twitter profile with a statement:

"I want to thank everyone at Bowling Green for giving me an incredible opportunity," he said. "After discussing things over with my family, friends, and coaches, I will be furthering my academic and athletic career at Duke University. Go Blue Devils!"

Katrenick, given a 5.6 three-star billing by Rivals.com, also carried offers from Buffalo, Miami (Ohio), and Virginia.

DevilsIllustrated.com also caught up with Katrenick for more thoughts on his commitment to Duke.

"Coach Cut, Coach Bridge, and Coach Roper have been recruiting for a while, while also being respectful of Bowling Green," he said. "They have seen me work out and loved how I am as a person and athlete. I love the school, the staff, and the program. Life after football is set up great and the program is up and coming and big time. All of the staff is amazing and really just a great fit for me as a quarterback and as a person."
