Blue Devils land defensive end from Greensboro in recruiting coup
Duke beat Clemson in the opening week for the second straight season.
The Blue Devils have flipped 4-star defensive end Bryce Davis, the 53rd-ranked player in the Class of 2025. Davis announced his decision Sunday afternoon.
Davis is a monster of a defensive end who has been long sought by Duke’s coaching staff — both the previous one under Mike Elko and the current one under Manny Diaz, which makes its debut Friday night against Elon.
This is where we point out that Duke’s defensive ends coach, Harland Bower, remained in that position through the coaching change.
It’s been 36 days since Davis committed to Clemson. The two ACC schools that met about a year ago in the season opener — with Duke winning 28-7 — were in Davis’ final four, along with Georgia and South Carolina, which made a late push.
At the ceremony in Grimsley High School’s basketball gym, Davis briefly picked up the Georgia hat before donning the Clemson hat.
If current rankings hold, Davis will be the highest-rated signee since Scott Bracey in the Class of 2016. Davis is a 5.9; Bracey was a 6.0.
Davis told Devils Illustrated early last season that “I know a lot of people don’t see it, but I see it. So it puts them up there, they’re on my list, for sure,” in regard to Duke’s changing culture as a football program.
That was a few days before the Blue Devils beat Clemson, for which Davis was in attendance.
The 6-4, 240-pounder considers Duke his first offer. West Virginia and Vanderbilt were technically earlier, but they didn’t make his final 12 last year and Duke’s program was the first to follow up with him and establish a relationship after the offer.
