Current role still intact for Roper

Duke head coach David Cutcliffe told the media Wednesday that his search for Ron Middleton and Matt Lubick's replacements would end with people he is familiar with.
Today, several reports have surfaced placing Pittsburgh Steelers wide receivers coach and former Duke assistant Scottie Montgomery as the Blue Devils' offensive coordinator, leaving current OC Kurt Roper in a different role within the program.

Rumors have made the rounds that Roper would move into the vacated role of associate head coach left by Middleton, who recently accepted a position with the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars.
Both reports are false according to Assistant Director of Athletics/Sports Information Art Chase.
"Kurt Roper is Duke's offensive coordinator and will continue to handle the play-calling element as he has for the past five seasons," Chase told Devils Illustrated. "Coach Cutcliffe and Coach Roper are working together to fill the vacancies on the offensive staff."
The school would not comment on Montgomery's reported hiring, stating that the process for Middleton and Lubick's replacements is still underway.
Multiple sources have confirmed that Montgomery is returning to the staff at Duke, however, no position has been detailed by any of the sources.
