2019 in-state athlete carries early Duke offer

Elizabeth City (Northeastern) sophomore JR Walker could end up being one of the top prospects in the state of North Carolina in the 2019 class.

While he is still well over two years away from signing with a college program, Walker still has some recruiting interest to his credit including an early offer. That tender came from David Cutcliffe's Duke program.

"Duke is a great school," Walker told DevilsIllustrated.com. "When I first knew I got the offer, I started smiling because I didn't think it would really happen."

Walker still has not made a proper, in-depth visit to Duke's campus but did participate in the Blue Devils' camp over the summer.

"When I went to the camp, the (football) complex looked good," he said.

During that stop in Durham, the in-state athlete found it to be a worthwhile venture.

"The camp experience was great," he said. "I learned a lot while I was there."

NC State is also showing interest in Walker, who as of last week had tallied 10 touchdowns for a team in the midst of a strong season.

Clemson and Virginia Tech are two programs that Walker hopes to hear from in the future. He has already given thought to what attributes he will be looking for at the next level.

"I will be hoping to find the love and loyalty in the coaches and fans," he said.
