Jeter chooses Duke
Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski and his staff picked up their second commitment of the 2015 class Monday, making their presence felt on the recruiting trail yet again.
The Blue Devils earned a verbal pledge from Rivals.com five-star recruit Chase Jeter of Las Vegas (Nevada) Bishop Gorman. Jeter, who informed the coaching staff last week, made his public announcement on national television at the Adidas Nations Championships Tuesday evening.
"I will be attending Duke University to be a Blue Devil," Jeter said, lifting his jersey up to reveal a Duke t-shirt.
Jeter visited Duke in March for his only official visit, and following the trip the 6-foot-10, 220-pound senior raved about the Blue Devils.
Duke was quickly perceived as the leader, and from that point forward the other programs were left to play catch-up. None were able to do so.
"I took a lot of time to evaluate my decision. Took visits to all the schools on my list and I feel like I was really comfortable with my decision.
"I just loved the feel, the environment. Cameron Indoor is a great place - great basketball environment. I just felt like it was the right place for me."
Jeter chose the Blue Devils over offers from Arizona, UCLA and UNLV. Though Duke was the only school on his final list not within a stones throw of his hometown, the opportunity presented in Durham leveled out any concerns of playing his college basketball so far away from home.
Though playing close was something that he took into consideration, in the end, his connection with Duke came out on top.
He becomes Duke's second commitment for the class, joining five-star shooting guard Luke Kennard out of Franklin, Ohio.
