2009 Miami LB hearing from big names

Linebacker Daniel Mack, a 5-foot-11, 185 pound prospect from Miami (Fla.) Dade Christian and a member of the Class of 2009 has already turned some heads and caused a stir in the recruiting world. With good speed, the ability to play multiple positions, Mack has positioned himself for a strong junior season and should be on nearly everyone's recruiting radar.

Mack has run the 40-yard dash in 4.51 seconds and said he may be recruited as a linebacker or a safety. Last season he made a name for himself by recording 137 total tackles, 90 of which were solo stops, with eight sacks and two interceptions.

"This summer I've mostly been working out with my team but I've been around a little bit," Mack said. "I was an MVP at the National Underclassmen Combine. I went to the Florida State football camp and I went to FIU's camp too. I think I really turned some heads there.

"I've heard from Florida State, Florida, Georgia and Georgia Tech. I'm pretty open right now, but I really would like to play in the SEC. It's a great conference with great tradition."

That obviously bodes well for Florida and Georgia, but a couple of other SEC schools are on his mind as well.

"I'll probably be looking at schools like South Carolina, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Arkansas and whoever else from the league (the SEC) gets up with me. I really love the linebacker position but I'm not against playing safety either."

Florida International and Ole Miss have told Mack they plan on evaluating tape of his first couple of games before deciding whether or not to extend an early scholarship offer. He is also encouraged by the level of interest he has received from Florida State.
