December 30, 2003 DeMarcus Nelson had a double-double (28 points and 10 rebounds) but his Sacramento Sheldon team couldn?t overcome a tough Cincinnati Moeller team as the Huskies lost 76-60 at the GlaxoSmithKline tourney at NC State.Nelson, in typical fashion, did all that he could do for the victory putting in 28 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and five steals. The future Duke Blue Devil continued to prove that he can score from anywhere on the court as well as quietly dominate the boards. NC State bound big man Andrew Brackman led No. 17 ranked Moeller with 33 points and 14 rebounds. Our scout?s view: ?From the outset, it was obvious to see the advantage that Moeller had with their size and talent in comparison to Nelson?s team. But the 6-foot-4 guard can still light it up. He is a scoring machine. He sees a spot on the floor and gets to it. Nelson won?t show it and probably won?t say it but he needs some help with his current team. He can?t do it on his own. Overall, it?s been a pleasure to watch him. He?ll be a great fit for Duke along with Shaun Livingston in the backcourt.? The Huskies wrap up their time in North Carolina on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. EST when they play against a very tall Georgetown Prep (DC) for the third place title. The Little Hoyas have a huge front line comprising of 7-2 Roy Hibbert (Georgetown), 6-9 Davis Nwankwo (Arizona, Miami FL, Stanford) and 6-8 Aris Williams (Valparaiso). David McClure and his Trinity Catholic (CT) had a complete 73-32 dominating victory over Chatham Central (NC). The future Duke small forward had a quiet, yet respectable 13 point, nine rebound and three block performance. McClure and his team had very little problem winning the game and it was nearly over soon after the opening tip. While the 6-foot-6 versatile forward didn?t wow anyone with a fantastic stat line, he did his job without any problems. Our scout?s view: ?If I were a coach, I?d pray to the basketball gods everyday for a kid like McClure. He just does what is needed. You don?t have to tell him to ?go rebound? or ?go lock down that man?. He knows what he needs to do, and does it. How many kids understand that? Not a lot. McClure is going to be a great four year player that will come into his own probably sooner than most realize. He?s a perfect Duke player.? Trinity Catholic get after it again on Tuesday at 7:20 p.m. EST for their final game as they square off against West Brunswick (NC) featuring NC State bound big man Cedric Simmons. |
